It’s that time again where we communicate to all our stakeholders how we’ve made progress this year. 2023 has been a year of continued success in line with our long-term strategy of controlled growth. New product development and continuously improving everything that we do right across all aspects of our business continues to be an important focus for us.
FACTORY EXTENSION
In May and in line with our plans, we completed further expansion of the factory floor with a 50,000 square foot factory to be used for final assembly and quality control department. We continue to invest heavily in equipment and the latest manufacturing technology and we look forward to the delivery of the first of our new laser section cutters in the next few weeks. In February this year we added a new paint booth and production lines which is a sign of our increased investment and commitment to growing the business in a controlled fashion for the long term. In January 2024 we will begin the construction of our new offices. This will include a new customer reception centre.
In terms of Sales and marketing, throughout the year we’ve exhibited at over 15 Trade shows across five different continents and that’s testament to the hard work of our partners in those territories as well as a committed marketing department.
INVESTING IN OUR YOUTH
EDGE is totally committed to apprenticeships and as part of the mega network we’ve invested heavily in the degree apprenticeship programme at Ulster University which focuses specifically on mechanical engineering and design. Further to that the MEGA network has developed a new finance degree programme specifically aimed at manufacturing and engineering. We will continue to recruit apprenticeships across our entire business. The future of EDGE is directly connected to investing in our young people in this locality and we are ambitious in our plans to bring more young people into our company.
We are also focused on looking after the people that are currently within the company and this year saw the development of a new programme training people within the organisation on mental health issues. The challenge of mental health in today’s world is an increasingly difficult one. We recognise that and have taken steps to improve the physical and mental health of our team.
CARBON OFFSETTING
As a manufacturer of equipment used in the environmental and recycling industries we realise that we need to show a commitment to reducing our own carbon footprint. To this end we have embarked on a number of investment initiatives. This year we installed over 600 new solar plans at our headquarters offsetting over 70,000 kilogrammes of CO2 yearly. In combination with our previous installations, we can now generate over half a million kilowatt hours of green electricity. This is an investment that will pay off over a number of years. As the world struggles to deal with the onset of global warming it’s important that we do our bit, and this particular investment is part of a continued commitment to improve the environmental impact of the manufacturing of EDGE products.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
In terms of the overall picture, recent years have seen much upheaval in the world economy and the focus really has been on dealing with the COVID crisis. As the threat of the pandemic decreased we were all faced with huge levels of component shortages as well as increasing costs. We’re happy to say that many of many of these challenges have decreased and we have seen more stability with regard to costs and availability of components.
The inflationary pressures across many economies in the world in 2023 has led governments to increase interest rates and the result of that has undoubtedly seen a softness in demand. Nevertheless, Edge is very confident that in 2024 we will again be able to increase sales. In order to achieve this, we’ve committed even more heavily to product development.
Next year will see the launch of a number of exciting new products that will complement our existing portfolio offering. We are focused on controlled growth within this organisation. The new products that we will bring to the market will fit in with our product development strategy as we continue along the journey off growing and securing the future for the long term.
I want to thank all our stakeholders for working with us so positively throughout the year including our distribution partners, our team here at Edge and our suppliers. We look forward to 2024 with excitement and confidence and working closely with you all.
