EDGE will be at IFAT 2026, Hall B5 Booth 105, with the electric VS420e

Electric Waste Shredders at IFAT 2026: EDGE Innovate VS420E & VS750i

EDGE Innovate Brings “Electric Without Limits” to IFAT 2026

EDGE will be exhibiting at IFAT 2026 from 4–7 May at Messe München, Germany, and you’ll find the team in Hall B5, Booth #105. This year, the focus is simple: Electric Without Limits.

With more operators looking to cut emissions and reduce running costs, EDGE is putting its electric and hybrid machines front and centre. Visitors to the stand will be able to see how this technology is delivering the same performance as diesel machines – just with lower costs, less servicing, and better efficiency.

The EDGE VS420E Hybrid Waste Shredder will be on display at the stand, giving visitors the chance to see it up close. It combines electric power with diesel flexibility, so operators get the best of both worlds – reduced CO₂ emissions and fuel use, without losing power or productivity.

Also featured is the EDGE VS750i Electric, a larger twin-shaft shredder built to handle tough, bulky waste streams. Like the rest of the EDGE range, it’s designed to keep material moving, reduce blockages, and maximise throughput, while offering electric, hybrid, or diesel options depending on the setup.

What Are the Benefits of Electric Waste Shredders?

With rising fuel costs and stricter emissions regulations, more operators are turning to electric waste shredders as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to diesel-powered equipment.

Power and Performance

Electric machines offer the same production capacity as diesel or hydraulic-driven units, ensuring high throughput without compromising performance.

Increased Uptime

With reduced servicing requirements and no need for refuelling, electric-powered units deliver greater reliability and maximise operational uptime.

Flexible Setup

Electric shredders can be customised to suit specific application requirements or integrated into existing waste processing plants, making them suitable for both new and retrofit installations.

Reduced Operating Costs

Electric-powered equipment can significantly lower operating costs by eliminating fuel usage and reducing maintenance requirements, particularly in high-demand environments.

Lower Emissions

Electric shredders produce fewer emissions, helping operators meet environmental regulations while supporting sustainability goals.

EDGE will also be showcasing its wider range of equipment for the waste and recycling sector, including trommels, scalping screens, stackers, and sizing equipment, all built for reliability, high output, and low downtime.

Whether you’re working with C&D waste, green waste, biomass, or MSW, the team will be on hand to talk through how EDGE solutions can help improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.

If you’re planning to attend, feel free to drop by the stand or book a meeting in advance by emailing info@edgeinnovate.com.

EDGE Innovate Recycling Equipment powers SIRC’s CDW transformation

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 outlines a bold roadmap for economic diversification, environmental responsibility, and a dramatic reduction in landfill dependency. At the core of this strategy is the transition towards a circular economy, with a national target to divert 60% of CDW from landfills by 2035.

EDGE Innovate is proud to play a key role in this transformation. Our newly commissioned static waste processing facility for the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC)—operated by its subsidiary AKAM—demonstrates how world-class technology can drive recovery, reuse, and recycling of valuable resources.

Commissioned in August 2024, the plant processes up to 50 tonnes per hour (TPH) of CDW, removing 6 TPH of contaminants such as wood, gypsum, plastics, and metals. This enables the recovery of clean stone, wood, and ferrous metals, feeding them back into the local supply chain and keeping reusable resources out of landfill.

EDGE was selected for this project based on our proven expertise and track record in the region, including the development of Saudi Arabia’s first construction waste recycling facility in Al Khair, Riyadh. Commissioned in 2021, that flagship site processes more than 600 TPH and consistently achieves a recycling rate of over 90%.

This latest project builds on that foundation with solutions designed specifically for the region—prioritising durability, reliability, and future scalability.

For AKAM, the new facility marks an important strategic milestone. The company was recently awarded a Guinness World Record for receiving and processing more than 3 million tonnes of CDW, demonstrating the significant impact of its work. A project EDGE Innovate was also involved. With this new plant, AKAM is further strengthening its long-term commitment to landfill diversion and sustainable waste management in line with Vision 2030.

Project objectives and Waste equipment supplied

The main objective of the project was to deliver a highly efficient sorting solution—combining both automated and manual processes—to meet Saudi Arabia’s CDW recycling needs. The plant was engineered to handle feed material ranging between 50mm and 350mm in size, with a throughput capacity of 50TPH.

To achieve this, EDGE Innovate supplied industry-leading equipment engineered for harsh environments and optimised for energy efficiency. This included a fully enclosed, three-bay EDGE MPS48 Modular Picking Station and a fully electric low-level feed hopper.

The MPS48 is at the heart of the facility. Renowned globally as one of the most robust and versatile picking stations, it combines strength, scalability, and operator comfort. With a modular bay design, the station can be easily expanded as demand grows. The MPS48 also provides climate-controlled working conditions and ergonomically designed workstations, reducing operator fatigue and improving safety. Integrated overband magnets remove ferrous materials upstream—protecting equipment further down the line and lowering maintenance costs.

Steven Conway, EDGE Innovate Territory Distributor Manager

Steven Conway, EDGE Innovate’s Territory Sales Manager, explained how our team adapted equipment to the region’s needs: “For this project, EDGE modified AKAM’s existing designs for both the MPS48 and LTS feeder to ensure reliable operation in extreme heat and harsh environmental conditions.”

Initially configured to run on generators due to the site’s remote location, the plant has also been future-proofed to switch easily to mains electric as infrastructure develops. This ensures long-term alignment with AKAM’s drive toward greener, more sustainable operations.

A key addition to the system is EDGE’s AirMax air separation unit, which removes lightweight fractions at the entry point of the sorting line. This improves material segregation quality and maximises the value of recovered outputs.

For AKAM, the plant will play a central role in reducing carbon emissions, conserving resources, eliminating visual pollution, and cutting waste disposal costs. Economically, it will create jobs, strengthen the recycled materials market, and offer cost-effective alternatives to virgin materials for the construction industry.

Exemplifying operational excellence

SIRC, fully owned by the Public Investment Fund, is driving Saudi Arabia’s shift to a circular economy. Through its operating arm AKAM Recycling, SIRC processed 16 million tonnes of CDW in 2022 alone. AKAM’s projects include the “Green Cement Block Industry Initiative,” which reuses recycled concrete in cement block manufacturing—reducing demand for virgin aggregates and preventing illegal dumping.

AKAM’s rapid growth highlights its commitment to sustainability, with more than SAR 160 million invested in recycling infrastructure and a 15-fold increase in revenue between 2021 and 2022. With headquarters in Riyadh and a daily fleet of more than 3,600 trucks, AKAM exemplifies operational excellence at scale.

A partnership driving sustainability

The delivery of this new facility strengthens EDGE Innovate’s partnership with SIRC and AKAM, built on more than 30 years of global recycling expertise and proven performance in diverse waste streams. Our relationship is based on trust, collaboration, and the ability to tailor solutions to the unique requirements of the Middle East.

According to the AKAM team: “EDGE Innovate’s technology enhances our operational efficiency by allowing greater recovery of reusable materials and minimising waste. Their systems reduce manual handling, optimise energy consumption, and improve output quality—directly supporting our commitment to sustainable and low-emission recycling practices.”

AKAM also credited EDGE’s equipment with improving material flow, recovery rates, and contamination levels—while offering flexibility, ease of maintenance, and operational reliability. “We take pride in working with a technology partner like EDGE Innovate. Their expertise and adaptability support our long-term vision of transforming Saudi Arabia’s waste management sector—helping us move toward a cleaner, more resilient, and resource-efficient future.”

Supporting the Kingdom’s circular economy

Saudi Arabia’s CDW recycling sector is rapidly evolving with tighter permitting, stricter landfill penalties, and new reporting obligations. EDGE Innovate’s latest installation supports this transformation with high-efficiency, scalable technology designed for the most demanding environments.

Commenting on the opportunity ahead, Steven Conway added: “As companies segregate both legacy and new waste, additional processing of individual waste streams will be required to create sellable products. We look forward to continuing to support stakeholders throughout the Middle East as they work towards a greener, more sustainable future.”

Through this latest project, EDGE Innovate continues to prove its position as a global leader in waste processing technology—delivering reliable, future-ready solutions that accelerate the shift to a circular economy and support national sustainability goals.

Nikki Canavan, Senior Director, Head of Origination & Sustainability, Corporate Banking Ireland, and judging panel member said: “Over the last number of years the companies in the Best Managed Companies network have shown huge strength in the face of disruption and uncertainty. This year in particular – a year that tested Irish businesses like never before – the judges noted the commitment, bravery, resilience and tenacity of the applicant companies.”

EDGE Innovate, a family company with a global reach has evolved to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers and exporters of sophisticated equipment for the quarrying, waste handling and recycling sectors. Employing 170 people directly, the Northern Irish based, County Tyrone company currently exports more than 99% of its products outside of the UK having developed a strong presence throughout overseas markets such as North America, Australia, and Middle East.

Commenting our EDGE’s requalification, EDGE Innovate Managing Director, Darragh Cullen “We are incredibly proud of the continued performance of our team here in Ireland who, in turn support an ever-increasing network of distribution partners throughout the globe. EDGE Innovate has evolved into a truly global brand. Being a part of this programme over the past 6 years with Deloitte, has enabled EDGE to continually analyse and benchmark our operations and allow the senior leadership team to strategize for the future with the goal of continued growth and increasing EDGEs market share in what is a competitive marketplace”.

Northern Ireland Investment Summit

EDGE Innovate is honoured to have represented Northern Ireland’s world-renowned material handling manufacturing sector at the recently held Northern Ireland Investment Summit. EDGE Innovate is located in the heart of Mid-Ulster; a region that is recognised as the centre of manufacturing and engineering in Northern Ireland. The sector accounts for 21% of the local economy and provides nearly 11,000 jobs. It is estimated that the manufacturing and engineering sector in Mid-Ulster delivers approximately £1.67bn to the local economy and over £710m in local wages, directly and indirectly. A staggering 40% of the world’s mobile crushing and screening equipment is made in Mid-Ulster.

Announced by the UK Prime Minister, as part of the Belfast Good Friday Anniversary commemorations, during USA President Biden’s visit to Belfast in April 2023, the Northern Ireland Investors Summit will provide a major business, cultural and economic moment for Northern Ireland in 2023. Guests from the US, Ireland, UK and Europe and other key economic markets travelled to Belfast in what was the largest collection of leading investors and international businesses that Northern Ireland has hosted.

The Summit delivered by the Department for Business and Trade in close partnership with Invest Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Office and jointly hosted by both the Secretary of State (SOS) for the Department for Business and Trade and the Secretary of State for the Northern Ireland Office.

The invitation-only Summit gathered leading Northern Irish businesses together to showcase Northern Ireland’s strengths and opportunities in key sectors of the future to key investors, high net worth individuals, international businesses, and organisations.

EDGE Innovate, a family company with a global reach has evolved to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers and exporters of sophisticated equipment for the quarrying, material handling and recycling sectors. Employing 170 people directly, the company currently exports more than 99% of its products outside of the UK having developed a strong presence throughout overseas markets such as North America, Australia, and Middle East. In 2022, the company was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise recognising its excellence in International Trade for a second time, as one of only seven companies to achieve two awards. The business also entered the Northern Ireland’s Top 100 Companies list for the first time in 2023.

To meet the growing demands on the business, EDGE Innovate have recently opened a new 36,150ft² factory which encompasses a state of the art fabrication and final assembly lines which the company says will result in the creation of 20 new jobs.

Over 200 international investors were in attendance to learn first-hand how the UK Government intends to build upon the competitive business environment that makes Northern Ireland a most attractive investment destination. The Summit will also provide a unique opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland as an attractive and vibrant place to do business and help drive new investment into its economy.

The Belfast Telegraph in partnership with Grant Thornton, have announced their list of the top 100 Companies in Northern Ireland for 2023 and we are very proud that EDGE Innovate has been named once again.

The top 100 list includes firms across a range of sectors including engineering, banking, infrastructure, retail and IT. It also includes companies owned locally, nationally and internationally.

Richard Gillan, Managing Partner, Grant Thornton Northern Ireland said:

“Each year the Top 100 produces an invaluable resource that provides a unique insight into the breadth and depth of our economy and the diverse nature of the businesses that play their part in making it what it is.

“2023 is no different with the Top 100 guide once again featuring a strong mix of sectors represented from right across Northern Ireland, including home-grown firms sitting alongside globally recognised brands.

EDGE supplies 100 countries across the globe, with a strong presence in North America, Australia, Canada, France and Italy. Our focus is to help customers grow and improve profitability by providing equipment that drives down operational costs while maximising returns.

EDGE’s research and development engineers work closely with partners and customers to develop innovative new solutions for the market with two new products launched at COMPOST 2022 in Austin, Texas. A recent focus has been electrification of its offering away from diesel-powered equipment, with three new products to be brought to market in 2023.

Darragh Cullen, Managing Director of EDGE Innovate said:

Equipment manufacturer has the edge on the rest

A global leader in the design and distribution of equipment used in the quarrying, port handling and recycling industries bagged not one, but two top awards for Excellence in Exporting. Co Tyrone-based EDGE Innovate, a family-run business with 170 employees has boosted its turnover by 14% to £40m in the past year.

The Made in NI manufacturer awards and Belfast Telegraph business awards celebrate the dynamism, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of the local business community in Northern Ireland.

Both Judging panels were impressed with the work EDGE Innovate has done with its network of more than 70 overseas dealers and partners to alleviate barriers to market such as cost increases, component supply issues and it’s continually engagement in product innovation.

Eddie Cuskeran, Director of Operations, said: “Our success has to be credited to our dynamic, loyal team. They have worked tirelessly, continually improving our process and ensuring a smooth transition through all departments.

“This hard work has helped develop an even better product with reduced lead times which inevitably improved our exports.”

EDGE Innovate exports 99% of its equipment having supplied up to 100 countries across the globe, with a strong presence in North America, Australia, Canada, France and Italy.

In 2022, the company was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise recognising its excellence in International Trade for a second time, as one of only seven companies to achieve two awards.

The business also entered the Belfast Telegraph Top 100 Companies for the first time in 2023.

EDGE Innovate has experienced exceptional growth since 2009 facilitated mainly by the introduction of a diverse range of products. Its research and development engineers work closely with partners and customers to develop innovative new solutions for the market with, for example, two new products launched at COMPOST 2022 in Austin, Texas generated around £3.1m in sales last year.

To meet these growing demands on the business, EDGE Innovate have recently opened a new 40,00ft² facility with further expansion plans already in construction. The company says a new 36,150ft² factory will house a state of the art fabrication and final assembly lines resulting in the creation of 20 new jobs.

This investment will ensure EDGE Innovate are in the position to capitalise on growing demand with the additional space, equipment and people needed to achieve their export targets.

EDGE will now represent Northern Ireland at the Made in the UK Awards finals, taking place in Liverpool on June 29th.

DIRECTOR INSIGHT – 2022 A YEAR IN REVIEW

The challenges brought forward by availability of components has eased but only slightly. We have had to constantly adjust our production schedule to meet this ever changing scenario. Ultimately, we have surpassed our output goals and targets but the order in which equipment has been shipped to customers has had to be realigned. Issues at ports has been exacerbated by huge demand and strike action which has placed further stress on delivery times.

NEW, INNOVATIVE ORGANIC PROCESSING EQUIPMENT

The good news is that the challenges brought forward by Covid seems to be over and life has more or less returned to normal. With the launch of new products at the beginning of the year including the FTS Radial, TRM831 trommel and the TRT620R trommel we have had an outstanding year of growth.

The size and quality of our team has increased, and we have again invested heavily in product development and innovation. 2023 will see the launch of more new world class, innovative products and we look forward to sharing this good news with you all.

QUALITY PRODUCTS

Our order book has never been as healthy. We continue to challenge everything we do to improve efficiencies, machines design and customer support. As we travel down the never ending road of continuous improvement, we are more confident than ever of the quality of our products and our services.

We look to 2023 with excitement and a determination. We are building relationships with new partners and new markets but are more than thankful for the long standing relationships and partnerships that we already have.

EDGE INNOVATE AT CONEXPO 2023

We will once again be in attendance at North America’s largest construction show, CONEXPO 2023 where we will be showcasing some of EDGE’s largest units, the TRM831 trommel, VS420 high torque shredder and our innovative FTS Mulch Master.

Conexpo 23

Thank you; to you all for your help, support, and friendship throughout the year.

EDGE Innovate: A Family Company with a Global Reach

Today, as it increasingly focuses on the growing environmental sector, EDGE Innovate employs around 170 people directly, and currently exports more than 99% of its products from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, having developed a strong presence throughout overseas markets such as North America, Australia, and Middle East.

So, what has contributed to its rapid and impressive success? Comments Managing Director Darragh Cullen: “There are many things that have come together to make the company what it is today, not least our staff and employees – from the shop floor to our sales people, to our marketing department and to our management team.

“We have some excellent managers here, some have been with us for a long time, others are relatively new, providing us with an excellent mix of management skills; it is good to bring in new people with expertise in different sectors who can provide a fresh outlook. “Our workforce is very loyal and everyone is proud to work here; we have a lot of committed people who believe strongly in the company and the brand we have created. They will go the extra mile for us and for our customers. We are not afraid of change. We don’t stand still, we are always moving forward, questioning our processes and procedures, always open to fresh ideas and suggestions, always flexible in our approach.”

Ever since those KMC Engineering days when the company was sub contracted to a number of major exporters and manufacturers, the management team has been good at keeping costs under control, keeping overheads to a minimum and moving forward in an efficient and productive way. “Our people have always had a flair for good design and KMC Engineering provided us with a solid base to grow and evolve into EDGE Innovate. Our customers are our sounding board in terms of new ideas and new products; we are very customer driven in everything we do,” says Darragh. “We have a strong marketing team both locally and internationally and consequently our brand is known and respected in many countries. We are not called ‘EDGE’ for nothing. We strive to give our customers an ‘edge’ in the marketplace over their competition.”

Award Winning

No one, then, perhaps should be surprised that this year has been somewhat special for the company as it was presented with the Queens Award for Enterprise recognising its excellence in International Trade for the second time, having won its first Queen’s Award in 2019, becoming only one of seven companies to achieve two such Queen’s Awards. “Given the sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen, the awards will always be treasured,” adds Darragh who earlier this year met the new King. “When we were invited to Buckingham Palace for the awards presentation, it was the then Prince Charles who hosted the ceremony, as he did back in 2019.

“We view this latest award as recognition of the hard work and resilience of all our stakeholders over the last three years, especially during the time of the pandemic. With staff suffering from covid, isolating and with enforced lockdown, it has been an extremely challenging period. I want to thank our entire team for their help during this time. To our suppliers who have been faced with their own difficulties, thank you for your support. To our customers who have had to deal with long delivery times and increased costs, thank you very much for your patience.”

We mentioned earlier that EDGE Innovate is flexible in its approach to business – and that extends to its product designs; in fact, much of its equipment is produced with flexibility in mind. “Bringing new products to the market on a regular basis is very important, no more so than in the environmental sector where demands, standards and legislation are changing all the time,” explains Darragh, “which is why we are able to tailor existing products to specific customer requirements; what suits one client in one country may not necessarily so in another, so being able to ‘tweak’ our equipment designs makes it a lot more efficient and cost effective for both us and the customer.”

Of course, the company has a very proactive R&D department, constantly working on new designs and innovations, utilising latest technologies to do so. “R&D has always been an integral part of our business from the very beginning. At the moment, there is a big focus on electrification of equipment, but requirements differ from one country to another in terms of recycling needs and demand for carbon neutral products, so it is always a balancing act. Ultimately, I look forward to the day when there is no diesel powered equipment leaving our facilities.”

Dealer Network

Turning to the dealer network; that is the lifeblood of any company, and comments Tom Connolly, territory sales manager: “Our partners across the world are hugely important. Currently, we have 70 dealers and partners around the world and we maintain and foster a strong positive relationship with all of them. We work as a team, which is another reason for our success.”

Tom has been with the company for over 15 years and has established solid working relationships throughout the dealer network. He is always seeking out new emerging territories and new partners who would be a good fit for EDGE Innovate and much of his time is spent abroad.

“The big selling points for EDGE is the versatility of the machines we have in our portfolio, and being able to focus on a diverse range of applications, especially in the waste and recycling sector – from small operations to multi-nationals, we have equipment that can perform in a variety of different environments and tasks and meet different regional levels of legislation and standards.”

The company’s long term goals is to ensure that EDGE becomes one of the biggest names in the waste and recycling sector in the UK, as it already is in other countries. That process is already underway, with the appointment of Red Knight 6 Ltd (RK6) as their exclusive distributor for England and Wales. RK6 are distributors of world leading crushing, screening and recycling equipment for the quarrying, demolition and waste recycling industries throughout the UK & Ireland.

“We have been looking for a partner that will work with us on a long term basis and help drive greater sales throughout the UK. The experience RK6 has and the way they want to work with their partners fits perfectly with what we are looking for to grow our UK business,” said Tom.

Adds Paul Donnelly, Managing Director of RK6: “The EDGE Innovate product range compliments the brands we already work with perfectly. We recognise the opportunity for EDGE Innovate in the UK is a huge one and we look forward to delivering similar success to that already seen by our other partners.”

Ongoing Investment

Three years ago EDGE Innovate embarked on an £8m investment plan to cope with growing demand for its products. A new paint shop and stores facilities have been added, increasing production capacity by 30% and a new Customer Welcome Centre is being established to house its ever-expanding sales, marketing and aftersales departments.

“The new centre will be well utilised as we are constantly welcoming customers here from all over the world, sometimes for product training, other times to let them see our production processes and to get to know them on a more personal basis.”

So, what does the future hold for EDGE Innovate?  “We want to continue to grow at a controlled level, placing strong focus on product development, product support and service excellence. As I said, the only real difference between any business is the people who work in it and I believe we have the very best.”

EDGE Innovate has been named as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies. The awards programme is led by Deloitte Ireland, in association with Bank of Ireland. Nine new businesses have been awarded Ireland’s Best Managed Companies accolade at the 14th annual awards programme, led by Deloitte in association with Bank of Ireland. This year, Deloitte recognised 136 indigenous companies at the awards representing 25 of the 32 counties across Ireland.

EDGE requalified for their Gold status award, making it the fifth year to win a prestigious Best Managed Company  award.

Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards programme promotes and recognises excellence in Irish/Northern Irish owned and managed companies and is the only awards scheme on the island of Ireland that considers a business’ performance from every perspective. Commenting on the award, Darragh Cullen, Managing Director, “it is a great honour to uphold our Gold Award status for 2022. It is a huge testament to our hard working and dedicated team, and I want to thank them and our customers for their continued support.”

Brian Murphy, Lead Partner for Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards Programme at Deloitte said: “Year-on-year we’re impressed by the businesses that qualify and requalify for our Best Managed Companies Awards and in another uncertain year, the entries continued to raise the bar. Despite the challenges these businesses faced, the management teams of the winning companies have embraced new opportunities for innovation and growth, offering best-in-class products and services to their customers and retaining their competitive advantage in a world that is ever-changing.”

Harry Goddard, CEO, Deloitte Ireland and judging panel member said:
“A stand out from the judging process this year was the distinct focus of the Best Managed Companies on their local communities, despite their own international growth and ambition. Businesses have a vital role to play in our society. It was clear from the entries this year that they were having a positive impact not only on their own business, but also on the communities around them. I look forward to seeing how these businesses continue to invest, grow and contribute to our wider society.”

Nikki Canavan, Senior Director, Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking said: “This has been quite a year for Irish businesses, a year that began in 2022 in the grip of a global health crisis, with businesses grappling to emerge from pandemic restrictions being met almost immediately by new challenges, the global equilibrium rocked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, rapid inflationary pressure, tightening labour markets, not to mention, the almost forgotten, but prevailing Brexit tailwinds. The performance of these Best Managed Companies throughout the pandemic and these more recent headwinds is a testament to the energy, resilience and skills of their respective management teams and staff who have all been resolutely tested in ways we could not have predicted over the last few years. Bank of Ireland has been delighted to be able to support them through this year, as their Bank in many cases and also through our Coaches on the BMC programme.”

2021 – A YEAR IN REVIEW WITH EDGE’S MANAGING DIRECTOR

2021 has been one of our most challenging years. Shortages in component supplies and availability of shipping containers has been top of the list in terms of impacting our day-to-day operations. Who would have thought that some of our equipment designed to fit into shipping containers would be dispatched to our customers RO-RO?

The component shortages have wreaked havoc with our scheduling. At times we have had to rejig our product schedules to keep our assembly lines efficient. Nevertheless, thanks to a huge effort by our team from purchasing, cutting, welding, painting, assembly and quality control, not least shipping we have actually managed to surpass our targets. Well done and thank you to everyone in the company for their much-appreciated contributions.

Thank you also to our engineering team who worked tirelessly this year not just improving our existing products but bringing 3 new products to the marketplace.

January 2022 will see the launch of these products at the Compost Show in Austin, Texas. We cannot be sure how many of our team will be in attendance as we anticipate more travel restrictions due to the spread of Omicron. However, our team in the United States will be there in full force. We are excited to unveil the new FTS Radial, the TRT620 Trommel and of course our biggest Trommel to date, the TRM831. The marketing department have been busy for many weeks in preparation for this exhibition and fingers crossed for a successful show.

Thank you to all our many distributor partners around the globe for their support and patience this year. Our sales continue to grow as does the reputation of the company and indeed the EDGE brand.

2021 saw the completion of our new paint and prep shop as well as our new stores. 2022 will see further infrastructure investment in terms of an expansion of our cutting and welding facilities. We have just completed the installation of a new 8 metre press brake and over the holidays along with the usual maintenance activities we will be installing another high definition plasma. Further investment in equipment is planned for next year as we enforce Automation and Industry 4.0

This year also saw the launch of the 4-day week. Overall, this has been a hugely successfully strategy and our operational efficiencies have increased.

EDGE will continue to Innovate. We will launch further products in 2022 including electric and hybrid alternatives. We will continue to improve our processes and bring new methodologies and ideas to our operations. While our order book is stronger now than ever, we won’t be taking things for granted. In this increasingly globalised sector, we know we must get better at everything we do. This journey of improvement will never stop, and our team is committed to further development and innovation.

EDGE announced as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies 2021

EDGE announced as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies 2021 – Gold Standard

EDGE Innovate has been named as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies. The awards programme is led by Deloitte Ireland, in association with Bank of Ireland. The company, which demonstrated superior business performance for fourth year, was recognised at a virtual awards ceremony on Wednesday, 8 September.

25 companies have qualified for the first time this year. This year’s programme saw the highest number of new applicants in its thirteen-year history and culminated in a virtual symposium and awards ceremony this week. The winning companies represent 26 counties across the island of Ireland and come from a range of sectors. With this year’s new winners, there are now 139 companies that are recognised as Ireland’s Best Managed Companies. This network of companies has a combined turnover of €8.5 billion and employs a total of 40,000 people.

Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards programme promotes and recognises excellence in Irish/Northern Irish owned and managed companies and is the only awards scheme on the island of Ireland that considers a business’ performance from every perspective. Entrants to the programme compete for the designation in a rigorous process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices in addition to the strategy, capability, innovation, culture and financial performance of their companies.

Commenting on the award, Darragh Cullen, Managing Director said: We are honoured to have achieved the Gold Standard, as part of Deloitte’s Best Managed Business 2021. After a challenging year for businesses, we are delighted that the hard work of our team has been recognised, with this prestigious award. Every member of our team has been instrumental in developing a world class business delivering world class products and services right across the globe.”

Anya Cummins, Lead Partner for Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards Programme at Deloitte Ireland said: “This year, a record number of applications to the Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards programme were received. The quality of the applicants demonstrated the extraordinarily high-quality businesses operating across the island of Ireland today. In a relentlessly challenging year, the winning companies displayed true bravery in how they adapted to change, with many innovating and some even accelerating their plans for their businesses.”

Harry Goddard, CEO, Deloitte Ireland and judging panel member commented: “This year’s winning companies had robust strategies in place prior to the pandemic, which enabled them to respond comprehensively to the changing situations they found themselves in. With no sector untouched by the impact of Covid-19, many companies remained committed to ensuring that they did not fall into the trap of doing things like they had always been done, just because that had worked in the past; in fact, many companies took the extraordinary challenge as an opportunity to develop and improve processes.

“The judges noted that, despite the risk of falling into crisis mode and focusing solely on the immediate challenges facing their businesses, the winning companies were adept at maintaining a long-term view of where their organisations were going and a strong clarity of purpose on what the business was trying to achieve, and why.”

Nikki Canavan, Senior Director, Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking and judging panel member said: “Over the last number of years the companies in the Best Managed Companies network have shown huge strength in the face of disruption and uncertainty. This year in particular – a year that tested Irish businesses like never before – the judges noted the commitment, bravery, resilience and tenacity of the applicant companies.”

The members of this year’s judging panel were Frank Ryan, Chair of the Judging Panel; Harry Goddard, CEO, Deloitte Ireland; Nikki Canavan, Senior Director, Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking; Kate Malone, Director of Human Resources, IMI; Feargal Mooney, Non-Executive Director,  Meetingsbooker and Colm O’Reilly, CEO, The Business Post.

With more than double of entries ever received for the Belfast Telegraph’s Business Awards, EDGE Innovate has been shortlisted in two categories; Excellence in Exporting and Best Large Company of the Year.

The entrants have been praised for displaying resilience and entrepreneurial spirit following a difficult 15 months in the Covid-19 pandemic.

Professor Mark Durkin, executive dean at the Ulster University Business School and chairman of the judging panel, said: “With record entries this year the shortlisting process was not without challenge for the judges.

“For the judging panel this spoke to the underlying strength of the business sector in NI.”

Kenton Hilman, head of corporate and property banking at Ulster Bank NI, said: “Each of the companies shortlisted has demonstrated impressive levels of innovation and ingenuity and represent the kind of entrepreneurial spirit which has become synonymous with the NI business community.

“After a challenging year for businesses, there has never been a better time to champion their work and recognise the diverse range of talent and expertise spread among SMEs, family firms and larger companies, which will be of vital importance as we look towards economic recovery. I’d like to congratulate each of the shortlisted companies and individuals.”

As a team EDGE Innovate has really pulled together and worked hard to alleviate the impact of the virus on our customers and suppliers. With a forced shutdown in the spring 2020, we were able to return to work with a renewed vigour and determination to pull back on our stretched delivery dates. With much of the world in the same situation, our team has worked closely with our distributors to deliver our products to end customers in record times. With continued investment in infrastructure, people and R&D; EDGE Innovate has bounced back stronger than ever, with demand for our products at an all time high”

The winners will be announced at a later date.

EDGE Innovate New Paint Shop

EDGE INNOVATE BOOST PRODUCTION CAPACITY WITH ONSITE INVESTMENT

EDGE Innovate recently saw the completion of one of the programmes main goals, with the opening of a new 37,500 ft² factory at their Dungannon facility.

The new facility will see production capacity increase by up to 30%.

The facility houses a new stores area, a state-of-the-art paint shop and blasting facility complete with an automated blasting line. Through a close working relationship with their current paint supplier, the new paint shop facility will enable EDGE to achieve a much superior paint finish, leading to a more durable product for their customers.

Additional training coincided with a strengthened internal Quality Control system will guarantee an already high standard paint finish, first time, every time.

The new paint facility is controlled via an advanced PLC control system that will capture live data on production cycles. This process enables painters and fitters to get the correct colours and parts in place allowing for builds to move through the factory much more efficiently and increases productivity.

EDGE state that “every aspect of the coating process is regularly audited by our internal team and paint supplier to ensure compliance to our now increased internal & customer requirements. With the imminent transfer to our state-of-the-art painting facility, we are confident that our investment will ensure EDGE remain market leaders and innovators”.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

The new paint facility will see several environmental benefits. With shorter drying cycles & superior heat retention properties of the new paint booths installed; EDGE Innovate’s onsite energy consumption will be improved. Wastage generated via the painting process will also be greatly reduced, as too will the level of organic substance emissions.

Darragh Cullen, EDGE Innovate Managing Director commenting at the completion of the new factory, “With an ever-increasing customer demand for our products, it became abundantly clear that we needed to expand our manufacturing capacity. Having the ability to satisfy that demand was important, but so to, was the process of improving the quality of our products. This investment will allow EDGE to create a best in industry paint finish, allowing our customers to enjoy a much more durable product in the field”.

EDGE Innovate will now turn its attention to the expansion of their final assembly production facilities along with a new Customer Welcome Centre to house their ever-expanding sales, marketing, and aftersales departments.
